Common Ground Alliance

Pipeline companies also joined with other underground infrastructure owners and excavators to develop a damage prevention best practice study called “Common Ground.”

The study, conducted by 160 people with hands-on experience in underground damage prevention, covers the full range of safe practices, including the establishment of “One Call” centers; procedures for excavation, mapping, locating and marking; compliance; planning and design; reporting and evaluation; public education and emerging technologies.

To ensure a coordinated long-term commitment to damage prevention and the DIG SAFELY communication awareness program, the affected industries also have established the Common Ground Alliance. The non-profit alliance will provide strategic direction, continuous improvement in best practices, and education on pipeline damage prevention.
